What is it?

FlexPM is a simple project milestones/jobs/tasks list management and reporting solution built on the Adobe Flex Framework, using the OPML (outline processor markup language) XML standard. This is to allow for easy import of outlines created in 3rd party apps, and easy deployment onto a server (not requiring database access).

How it can help you:

I believe that the project management software solutions on the market today actually increase the distance and miscommunication between developers and PM's when they should bring the group together and support a collaborative relationship. Smaller development teams working with things like Agile / Extreme Programming and Scrum just don't call for traditional Gantt charting... Especially since most of these development teams are working as independent units, or managing themselves. FlexPM is designed to have very low bureacratic overhead, but still offer quick, transparent, and precise communication to all parties involved.

Why the inspiration?

Because I crave an online version of OmniGroups amazing OmniOutliner program. I've found this is the best application out there for quick itemizing and categorizing the tasks involved in a project. So, I built FlexPM to use the OPML xml markup, which means you can create your project outlines in OmniOutliner and quickly import them into FlexPM for full online collaboration!!!

What about the future?

This is the alpha release of FlexPM, so there is quite a bit on the roadmap. I will update with more details soon. Here is a short summary of things to come:

• Implement Feedback from the community of developers and PM's
• Charts - Extended use of charts to better understand immediate dependencies and overall percentage of completion on Project Milestones and User Tasks
• OPML Import Screen - currently you are hard set to upload the xml file alongside the swf
• Flex Data Services - Integration for real-time collaboration and project tracking (that means the CEO can leave the reports screen open and immediately get updates)
• Email Notifications - Sent to users
• RSS feed export for Plasma TV - (BYOTV)
